What’s an efoil?

Updated: Aug 8

Learnin to efoil in the Finger Lakes

If you’ve seen someone gliding silently above the water—no waves, no wind, just smooth, effortless motion—you’ve witnessed the future of water sports: efoiling.

It looks like magic, but it's real, at EFOIL FLX, we’re here to help you experience it for yourself.

An efoil is a surfboard equipped with an electric motor and a hydrofoil (a wing-like structure beneath the board). When powered, the motor propels the board forward while the foil lifts it above the surface of the water. The result? A smooth, flying sensation—like surfing, flying, and snowboarding all wrapped into one.

No waves required. No wind needed. Just you, the board, and an unforgettable ride.

  • Electric Power: A rechargeable battery powers a near-silent motor, giving you full control with a handheld wireless remote.

  • Hydrofoil Lift: Once you gain a bit of speed, the foil creates lift, raising the board above the water and reducing drag.

  • Steering: Leaning your body and shifting your weight lets you carve, turn, and ride with ease.

It’s high-tech, yet surprisingly easy to learn with the right instruction.

Almost anyone can enjoy efoiling! You don’t need surfing experience or superhuman balance. If you can kneel or stand on a board and listen to some basic guidance, you can learn to efoil. Most people are up and flying on their knees fairly quick. Many will learn to stand by the end of their first lesson. Most will master the art after a few sessions.

Whether you're an adrenaline junkie or just someone looking for a unique adventure, efoiling offers the thrill of flight with the peaceful vibe of being out on the water.

At EFOIL FLX, we specialize in turning first-timers into flyers. Our lessons are private, beginner-friendly, and take place in the beautiful waters of the Finger Lakes region.

We provide everything you need—board, gear, instruction, and encouragement.

You’ll be flying in no time—and trust us, it’s a feeling you’ll never forget.
